Hello everyone. Today, I want to share a piece that I personally cherish and poured a lot of emotion into—the "Gingko Leaf Chandelier."
This is more than just a lighting fixture; it is my heartfelt capture and tribute to the beauty and resilience of nature amidst the urban hustle.
💌The Spark of Inspiration: A Letter from Home
Design often springs from the deepest emotional connections. For me, the ginkgo leaf's significance started in my hometown.
Every deep autumn, the old ginkgo tree in my grandmother's courtyard would drench the space in gold. I remember as a child, my grandmother would carefully pick up a few of the most pristine, whitest leaves (sun-bleached of their original gold) and press them into her favorite books.
Later, every letter I received from her contained one of these gently preserved ginkgo leaves. It had lost its initial vibrant color, becoming dry, light, and imbued with a warm, milky white—as if gently purified by time itself.
That white leaf became my wellspring of inspiration: it represents pure longing, quiet eternity. I wanted my fixture to capture this sense of “shedding the luxurious and returning to the essence,” combining light with the warmth of ceramic to create a tranquil, healing atmosphere.

✍️Design Philosophy: The Art of the Emotional Glow & Vakkerlimited's Vision
In the sketching phase, I didn't pursue mechanical symmetry, but instead focused on capturing the most natural "dynamic" of the gingko leaf. I drew dozens of leaves from different angles, exploring their postures in the wind or on the water.
I finally settled on a design direction: the cascading cluster. Hundreds of ceramic leaves would seemingly randomly, yet carefully arranged, hang naturally from the main top structure. They should not be tightly packed, but spaced apart, mimicking the light "breathing" between leaves when a gentle breeze passes. The sketches defined the curvature and size gradient of the leaves, as well as the lengths of the connecting rods, ensuring the entire chandelier felt light and alive.

⚪The Choice of Material: Why "White Handmade Ceramic"?
Selecting the material involved a long debate. Metal felt too cold and hard, glass too fragile, and crystal too opulent. Our gaze finally settled on "handmade ceramic."
-
Texture: Ceramic, refined by fire, possesses a warm, jade-like texture. It's understated yet carries a quiet, inherent luxury.
-
Color: We chose a pure white. White maximizes the reflection and diffusion of light, allowing it to filter through the gaps between the leaves like moonlight on snow-dusted ginkgo. White also gives the product immense versatility, allowing it to blend perfectly into any interior style.
-
Craft: "Handmade" was our non-negotiable. Each ceramic leaf is hand-trimmed and glazed by an artisan, ensuring a natural curve to the edges and a delicate tactile finish. This means that each lamp is unique.

💻Precision Meets Aesthetics
An emotional sketch needs rational engineering to become reality. We turned art into an executable blueprint.
The focus at this stage was the "skeleton."
- We designed a metal frame that branched out organically, like a tree limb.
- We precisely calculated the suspension point and angle for every single ceramic leaf to ensure the entire structure was balanced and stable.
- We simulated the placement of the G9 (or E12) light sources to ensure the light would evenly illuminate each cluster of "leaves."

🏺A Artisan's Journey: The Process from Clay to "Leaf"
The most time-consuming part of this lamp is, by far, the creation of the ceramic leaves. It's a process that is meticulous, delicate, and full of uncertainty (the kiln always holds surprises).

Step 1: Molding & Forming 🛠️ Using the CAD data, we created precise molds for the leaves. High-quality porcelain clay is pressed into these molds to create the initial fan shape.
Step 2: Hand-Refining (The Soul) 👋 This is the most crucial part. Artisans take each semi-dry clay "blank" and refine it by hand. Using special tools, they carve the delicate, natural veins of the leaf and meticulously smooth the edges to give it a natural curve.
Step 3: Bisque Firing 🔥 The refined leaves go into the kiln for the first low-temperature "bisque firing," which hardens them and makes them permanent.
Step 4: Glazing ✨ After cooling, the artisans carefully spray each leaf with our custom-formulated white glaze. The thickness must be perfect—too thin, and the finish is dull; too thick, and it obscures the delicate veins.
Step 5: Glaze Firing ♨️ The leaves return to the kiln for a high-temperature "glaze firing" at over 1300°C (2370°F). In this trial by fire, the clay fully vitrifies, and the glaze melts to create that final, jade-like, lustrous finish. A certain percentage will always fail (cracking, warping, or glaze defects), so we only select the most perfect ones.
Step 6: Frame & Assembly 🔗 In parallel, the metal "branches" are cut, welded, polished, and electroplated. In the final step, technicians carefully wire the frame and then, one by one, hand-assemble each unique ceramic leaf onto its designated spot.

💡A Symphony of Light and Shadow
When the lamp was finally assembled and illuminated, all the hard work melted into pure joy.
It hangs there silently, as if time itself has stopped. Light filters through the cascading layers of ceramic, casting dappled shadows on the ceiling and walls, much like moonlight filtering through an autumn grove. It isn't dazzling, but it is bright enough. It is quiet, yet it is full of stories.
It's no longer just my personal inspiration; it has become a part of the space, bringing a sense of peace and poetry to everyone who lives with it.
We've designed several configurations to suit different spaces:
[Ginkgo Chandelier A]
A linear, branching form, like a ginkgo branch stretching across the sky. Full of artistic tension, it's perfect for long dining tables or reception areas.
[Ginkgo Chandelier E]
The metal lamp body is covered with exquisite ceramic petals, which reflects the perfect combination of lighting design and natural plants.
[Ginkgo Chandelier F]
A vertical, waterfall-like form, perfect for high ceilings or stairwells, creating a stunning sense of drama and flow.
This handmade ceramic ginkgo leaf chandelier is our homage to nature, craftsmanship, and light. It is more than a lighting product; it is a work of art that can breathe soul and story into any space.
